Venues NSW and NRL to match St George Illawarra Dragons $1 ticket to Convoy offer
17 June, 2021
St George Illawarra are proud to partner with the Illawarra Community Foundation and the i98FM Illawarra Convoy ahead of the Dragons’ Round 15 clash against the Canberra Raiders at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Saturday, June 19.
The i98FM Illawarra Convoy will be game day partner of the Raiders clash, with the Dragons to donate $1 of every ticket sold to the foundation, 50/50 raffle proceeds, silent auction items as well as providing over 60 tickets to convoy families, and the opportunity for the Convoy supported families to form the guard of honour for the players. Venues NSW and the NRL have also agreed to match the ticket offer meaning $3 from every ticket sold will go to the Illawarra Community Foundation.
“The i98FM Illawarra Convoy is an institution in the Illawarra and our game on Saturday against the Raiders is all about raising awareness of the event and raising funds for the Illawarra Community Foundation, who will distribute the funds to worthy charities and people across the region,” St George Illawarra CEO Ryan Webb said. “The Dragons are honoured to have the i98FM Illawarra Convoy as our match day partner. We hope that all Red V members and fans turn out in droves to support not only the team against Canberra on Saturday, but also Convoy and Illawarra Community Foundation.”
The Illawarra Community Foundation has supported over 200 local families in a number of ways including providing food and fuel vouchers, medical equipment, pharmacy accounts, school fees, uniforms, tuition and unfortunately on some occasion funeral expenses. “Venues NSW is again proud to donate $1 per ticket sold to Illawarra Community Foundation as a part of the i98 Illawarra Convoy. We hope to see a big crowd turn out to watch the Dragons take on the Raiders and support this wonderful cause.” Said Venue Manager for WIN Stadium, Marc Swan.
Illawarra Community Foundation manager Mark Rigby was delighted to partner with the Dragons at WIN Stadium. “I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of all the families, the i98FM Illawarra Convoy and the Illawarra Community Foundation. We are thrilled to have the support of our local NRL team,” Rigby said. “For many of the families dealing with potentially life threatening illnesses, entertainment can often be unaffordable due to treatment costs and loss of income due to parents not working during treatment. Even something as simple as attending a football game can often be out of reach. It is an exciting partnership that will not only help us assist families financially but also assist us in supporting our local children’s ward and other vital projects within the area.”
NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said the game was delighted to play a role in assisting those in need. “Rugby League brings people together and this is another example of how the game can make a positive impact in the community,’’ he said. “I encourage all Dragons fans to head to WIN Stadium on Saturday afternoon, you will no not only be supporting the Dragons but you’ll be supporting your community. The Illawarra Community Foundation makes a difference to so many local residents and the NRL is proud to support this initiative.”
In 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions, the largest truck and motorbike Convoy in the Southern Hemisphere, along with the free family fun day at Shellharbour Airport was unable to go ahead as anticipated. The event was replaced with Convoy at Home on Sunday, November 15 which included a Convoy themed Breakfast radio show, a virtual Convoy concert featuring performers that played at the free family fun day previously, and a two hour Convoy at Home television special, created by the WIN Network. And without starting an truck or motorbike engine the event raised $1,050.327 taking the 16 year total to just over 17 million dollars.
This year the 2021 i98FM Illawarra Convoy is scheduled for Sunday November 21, with the team actively planning for the event to proceed as usual.
