Over $1.6 million was raised before the event even began through the generous donations during the highly anticipated Lead Bike and Truck Auction last week. Tiny Tins and Wollongong Crane Trucks won the Lead Truck Auction with a bid of $300,020 and Coles took out the Lead Bike with $220,220.
"The unwavering generosity of the Illawarra community continues to amaze me," said Bill White, i98FM Illawarra Convoy Manager. "Especially in these tough economic times, it's incredibly humbling to see local businesses and families come together to support those in need. We’re so proud of how this event has grown in the past twenty years and it’s thanks to the incredible staff, volunteers, local businesses and especially the amazing Illawarra Community that sees this event grow each year."
Sunday’s historic event saw 672 motorbikes and 715 trucks travel from GM3 Appin down Mount Ousley and conclude at the free Family Fun Day at Shellharbour Airport. Thousands of people lined the streets of the Illawarra with this year’s event potentially having the highest attendance ever.
The free Family Fun Day saw Diesel and Andrew Swift perform on the main stage as well as local performers Kane Calcite and Straya as well as the daring stunts of Kye’s FMX Jam entertaining the crowds plus food and market stalls, car displays and rides. Three Kids & Families Buses also allowed recipients of the Illawarra Community Foundation to travel in this Convoy, making of which are currently undergoing treatment.
"Funds raised through Convoy stay directly here in the Illawarra and help individuals and families battling life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses," said Tia Davis, i98FM Station Manager. "After twenty years, it's truly heartwarming to see our community unite to ease the burden on those facing immense challenges."
To date, the i98FM Illawarra Convoy has raised $27,693, 636
