Introducing a new Platinum Sponsor for the 2017 i98FM Illawarra Convoy - Hutchinson Builders

6 June, 2017

Convoy welcomes a new Platinum Sponsor for 2017. In addition to continued Platinum sponsorship from MJ Rowles, Hutchinson Builders have also confirmed a Platinum Sponsorship of the event this year.

Joint Platinum sponsor of the Illawarra Convoy, Hutchinson Builders is setting up shop in Wollongong. And we couldn’t be happier.

Family run Australian construction company Hutchinson Builders is excited about its plans to establish a permanent office in the region, off the back of their current project building student accommodation for the University of Wollongong. The project team all live in the area and are delighted that they’ll be able to work closer to home on a more permanent basis. But of course, the new office is all part of a bigger vision.

“With the amount of growth in the pipeline for the region, it just makes sense to have a regional office here”, said Project Manager and recently appointed Team Leader Jayson Barnaby. “It’s a big part of the Hutchies culture to have a strong regional presence to support local economies, rather than just shipping people in for a project. We have permanent offices in regional centres around Australia.”

Many of the project team currently based at the site office at Kooloobong are long-time locals, and are all passionate supporters of the Convoy. They love that their employer is backing the event as a major sponsor.

“We’re all pretty chuffed that Hutchies is backing the event so generously”, said project administrator Tenielle Stevenson. “It kind of feels like supporting extended family. Hutchies puts a lot of emphasis on giving back to the community, which I love.”

You might recognise the Hutchinson Builders brand from big city developments, but you may be surprised to learn that Hutchies – as they are fondly known – build a lot more than skyscrapers. Established in 1912 as a family business, they have grown to become one of Australia’s largest builders, but they pride themselves on staying true to their humble beginnings.

“Our Managing Director Greg Quinn is very fond of saying, ‘no job is too large or too small for Hutchies’”, says Jayson, “and he sticks to his word on that. We do a lot of small refurbishments and residential work as well as the big ‘mega’ projects’ – we even still build one-off private homes for people.

Welcome to the region, Hutchies. We don’t really mind what you’re building, but we’re looking forward to seeing more of you!
