i98FM Illawarra Convoy wins it’s 9th ACRA Award!!
16 October, 2017
i98FM has won top industry recognition at the 2017 Australian Commercial Radio Awards held at The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre last Saturday night. Hosted by comedians Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen from The Chaser, the event saw the radio industry come together for their annual awards to honour those that excel across a number of categories.
i98FM’s Illawarra Convoy was again recognised as ‘Best Community Service Project’ in a provincial area. This is the ninth time that Convoy has won this award, the first time being in 2008 and then consecutively from 2010 – 2017. i98FM Breakfast Show Host, Marty Haynes said ‘I’m so proud of the whole Convoy team. Each year there’s so much planning that goes into the event and this award recognises everyone from the i98 team to our truckies, bikies, site managers, sponsors, local businesses and every other person that volunteers their time to ensure the day is a success. Convoy really showcases the spirit of the Illawarra community and the humbling way in which people come together to help those who are doing it tough. The establishment of the Illawarra Community Foundation earlier this year has meant that we have been able to help over 40
families and charitable organisations, which at the end of the day is what Convoy is all about. However none of it would be possible without the support of our local community and so this award belongs to the people of the Illawarra first and foremost.’
Since 2005, Convoy has raised over $9.5 million dollars with proceeds now going to the Illawarra Community Foundation which aims to help individuals facing life threatening illnesses and the organisations / charities that support them. The foundation also recently donated $250,000, funding stage one of the redevelopment of the Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward.
This year’s i98FM Illawarra Convoy will be held on Sunday, November 19. Today it was announced that Sneaky Sound System will be performing at the fun day held at the Croome Road Sporting Complex along with Aussie favourite, Daryl Braithwaite.
